Wayne, Pennsylvania, USA-August 2011-The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) announced an upcoming educational webinar titled "Same Quality System Essentials, Updated Perspective," taking place on September 20, 2011 from 1-2 PM Eastern (US) Time. The CLSI documents GP26 and HS01, which focus on a model to assist with implementation and maintenance of an effective quality management system (QMS), were merged and updated in 2011 and tailored just to laboratories. This presentation will review these changes, including a brief history of various editions over the last decade; a description of the major parts of the document; an explanation of the revised QMS model; major additions and changes to the quality system essential (QSE) requirements; and transitions needed if a laboratory already has a QSE-based QMS.
The webinar has an intermediate learning level. When the webinar is over participates will be able to: explain the rationale for reordering the QSEs; describe key sources of QSE information; list at least three major additions or changes to QSE requirements; and transition an existing QSE-based QMS to be consistent with the revised QSEs.
