Researchers Xiaoming Sun and Lian Lue, of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, published a review in Science Bulletin describing density gradient ultracentrifugation (DGUC) for colloidal nanostructure separation. In the review, researchers introduced the mechanism and applications of DGUC demonstrating its efficacy and versatility as a separation technique.
Typical methods of separation such as electrophoresis and membrane filtration, have many restraints and limited separation effect. In their review, they shed light on the DGUC technique, which was previously used to sort macromolecules in biology, and how it has been demonstrated as an efficient means to sort colloidal nanoparticles.
