Nephelometry is a technique used to measure the turbidity of a solution caused by suspended particles. This method commonly is used in immunology to determine levels of certain types of blood plasma proteins and other antigens such as immunoglobulins, lipoproteins, and rheumatoid factors. It can also be used to analyze precipitation or bacterial growth.
While certain instruments such as a fluorometer or turbidimeter with a detector can be utilized for nephelometric detection, nephelometers are dedicated instruments designed specifically for this purpose.
