DNA Extraction

DNA extraction is the process of isolating DNA from cell tissue or other cell components and membranes to obtain a pure DNA sample for analysis by techniques such as PCR, sequencing, or genetic analysis. Commonly used in industries such as biotechnology, forensics, medical research, and agriculture, DNA extraction is a critical step that affects all other downstream testing techniques. DNA extraction kits typically include all of the necessary components including enzymes and buffers needed to extract DNA from a specified sample type providing an all-in-one approach to purchasing supplies for DNA isolation or extraction. When comparing DNA extraction supplies or kits be sure to consider your sample type, many kits are optimized for specific sample types to aid in DNA isolation and increase purity as well as yield. High-throughput laboratories often opt for DNA extraction automation instrumentation which can reduce extraction times and provide more hands-off sample preparation.
