Los Angeles, CA – Instrument Business Outlook (IBO) today announced the winners of the 19th annual IBO Design Awards for excellence in the industrial design of analytical instruments, portable analytical instruments and laboratory equipment. The winners of the 2012 Awards demonstrate how industrial design can improve a product’s functionality and the end-user’s experience. The winners are:
Analytical Instrument Industrial Design
- Gold Award: Agilent Technologies’ Cary 630 FTIR Spectrometer
- Silver Award: Advion’s expression CMS (Compact Mass Spectrometer)
- Bronze Award: Malvern Instruments’ Mastersizer 3000 Particle Size Analyzer
Portable Analytical Instrument Industrial Design
- Gold Award: Barbieri electronic’s SpectroPad Spectrophotometer
- Silver Award: Ahram Biosystems’ Palm PCR Thermocycler
- Bronze Award: FLIR Systems’ Fido NXT Explosives Detection Device
Laboratory Equipment Industrial Design
- Gold Award: HTA’s HT3000A Series Gas Chromatograph Autosamplers
- Silver Award: Beckman Coulter’s Optima X Series Ultracentrifuges
- Bronze Award: KNF Neuberger’s SC950 Vacuum Pump System
To be eligible for a Design Award, a product must have begun shipping between August 2011 and July 2012. Award candidates are chosen from the new products that IBO monitors through trade shows, trade publications, press releases and the Internet. Award winners are selected solely based on their industrial design, not on technical capabilities or performance. Criteria include innovation, aesthetics, functionality and features.
