External Announcement: Robust and Sensitive Method Measures Iodide in Infant Formula

Thermo Fisher Scientific has developed a robust ion chromatography(IC) with pulsed amperometric detection-based method for determining iodide and iodate in milk-based infant formula from all major U.S. producers. Application Note 37: Determination of Iodide and Iodate in Soy- and Milk-Based Infant Formulasdemonstrates that this method accurately determines the labeled values of all the formulas analyzed and also shows method accuracy with a soy-based infant formula. Performed on a high-pressure IC system, this method has broad linear range (0.00510 mg/L), high precisions (relative standard deviationIodine is an important micronutrient involved in the regulation of many key biochemical reactions, so its concentration in iodine-fortified foods is often regulated and monitored. Therefore, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has specified minimum and maximum amounts of iodine that must be present in commercial infant formulas.
