Piezo Stage / Piezo Microscope Stages

Piezo stages, also referred to as nanopositioners, give researchers the ability to create higher-quality images in less time by achieving nanometer and even subnanometer resolution levels paired with very high precision and speed. Piezo stages are used in high-resolution microscopy applications such as Z-stack acquisition, 3-D imaging, scanning microscopy, and laser technology. Piezo-actuated Z-drives can typically achieve much higher focusing speeds (up to 10× higher) than classic motorized drives, and with movement of up to 100 sections per second, enable very rapid optical sectioning.

What to consider when choosing a piezo microscope stage?

Stages are available in XYZ formats and in combinations thereof; additional key points to consider are image analysis software compatibility and the profile of the stage (piezo systems’ often lower profile will permit easier integration into the microscope system). Other key features to consider include: travel, resolution, maximum speed, and maximum load.
