Gel Combs

Gel combs are an integral component of gel electrophoresis. Whether using polyacrylamide or agarose, when you are casting your gels, it is important to set up your gel to have the desired number of wells to load and run your sample. This is where gel combs will be of use. During the gel casting process, the comb will remain seated, blocking off well areas as the polymerization takes place. Once the gel is solidified, the comb is removed and the wells remain created by the comb remain.
