Thermo Fisher Scientific is pleased to announce testing guidelines that enable time- and cost-saving diagnosis of failing or damaged Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ AminoTrap™ columns used in monosaccharide analyses. Technical Note (TN) 125: Guidelines for Successful Use of Thermo Scientific Dionex AminoTrap Columns explains how a failing or damaged AminoTrap column, an in-line sample pretreatment column, can cause issues with high-performance anion-exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAE-PAD) monosaccharide analysis that may be misdiagnosed as a failing carbohydrate column (Thermo Scientific Dionex CarboPac™ column) or failing PAD detection. TN 125—intended to aid troubleshooting in such instances—provides guidelines for typical AminoTrap column performance, as well as tests to assess that performance.
Amino acids can interfere with HPAE-PAD monosaccharide analysis. To prevent interference, a Dionex AminoTrap column is installed preceding the CarboPac column. When column failure is suspected, two tests are used that assess the performance of both the Dionex AminoTrap and analytical columns, and suggest the appropriate action.
