Small Bay Area lab equipment company hopes to change the way labs work

A small laboratory equipment company in Larkspur, CA is introducing some major changes to the way medical research is done – and the impact is being felt in labs all around the world.

BioCision was founded in 2007 with a simple idea. Improve the way laboratories process and handle their samples – everything from tissue and blood used in diagnostic testing to temperature sensitive materials used in drug research. Despite the advances in science, many labs continue to process and store samples using buckets of ice, refrigerators, alcohol baths, and a range of grey or glass containers. As a result, the number of samples that are compromised or unusable in laboratories remains high – putting patients at risk and slowing down research. Using advanced engineering and a bit of bright color, BioCision is making it possible for many labs to achieve new standards in sample processing:

  • The company has introduced a new thermo-conducive technology that provides stable temperature control without the use of alcohol.
  • Company products are ergonomically-designed and sold in fluorescent colors to make sample storage and identification easier for laboratory teams.
  • The company is also working with some labs to develop custom designed products to meet specific lab requirements.

Over the past five years BioCision has generated double digit growth in revenues and now markets products to labs in 130 countries. Might you be interested in speaking with Rolf Ehrhardt, MD., PhD., President and Chief Executive Officer at BioCision, about the impact that advanced engineering and design can have on medical research in the years ahead, as well as the company’s continuing strategy for global expansion?
