BioSpec Products have developed the hand-held Mini Leaf Crusher, engineered for analytical laboratory support in the field as well as the lab. It is utilized in combination with unique BioSpec DNA Sample Cards.
Plant cells (leaf, stem, roots) are crushed via the Mini Leaf’s clamp at high pressure. The released cell extract is immediately captured and stabilized on special cellulose filter paper located within the compact sample card.
Multiple samples can be processed per day and it requires no additional vials, preservatives or low temperatures for successful transit of the sample cards to the laboratory for RNA or DNA analysis. Applications include agronomics assessment and crop pathogenicity trials requiring large scale grid-sampling.
